FROM THE DESK OF PRESIDENT

Dear Esteemed Members,

First of all, I would like to thank my fellow Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) members for electing me to lead our chamber as President for the next BMCCI year. As we mark the beginning of the new BMCCI year, I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve in this capacity and you have my sincere assurance that I will be dedicated to the cause of BMCCI in this role; the same way I have demonstrated my commitment over the past few years since I was first initiated into the association. Second, I would like to congratulate the new incoming board members. Looking further into the future, I am immensely proud and excited to work with you.Together, we will create an amazingly supportive and successful chamber that benefits all its members, our industry, and our clients around the world. Our joint efforts will move in all the right directions to address the challenges and opportunities the chamber faces and we need to keep building on the great work that our board of directors and members have been doing thus far.

In 2005, I was formally inducted into the association as a member. I became Director of BMCCI for successive two terms in 2010-2011 and 2012-2013. I served as the Hon. Secretary General in the term 2014-2015 after which I became the Vice-President in 2018-2019. Now I have received the privilege of serving the chamber as the President for the term 2020-2021.

As I reflect to that day when I was inducted in this association, I remember the overwhelming sense of power, pride and possibilities on what we could achieve due to our collective vision. One of the key strengths of BMCCI is that we have the ability to leverage and power to act effectively due to the diversity in skillsets and vocation across our members, many of whom are successful business leaders and professionals.

BMCCI is a joint chamber established to promote bi-lateral trade, commerce, industry and investment between theBangladesh and Malaysia both in private and public sectors, fostering mutual understanding and closer economic cooperation. As the association celebrates its 20th anniversary; Bangladesh celebrates its golden year and graduates into middle income country. As we embark on our new remarkable journey towards progress and prosperity, we must also strive together to support our nation’s economic transition and in this regard, BMCCI will play an even greater role now more than ever. After all, 21% of the employment comes from businesses and makes 19% of contribution towards the Bangladesh GDP. Bangladesh exported US $ 252 million worth of goods to Malaysia in 2017-2018.

The three areas of roadmap to align the BMCCI behind the country’s vision in trade and investment are activities related to 1)generating and gathering data and informationon trade and investments of Bangladesh and Malaysia, 2) increasingmembers’ engagementto enhance mutual cooperation 3) bridging BMCCI with associations from the chamber in all 13 states of Malaysia.Together, we will unpack what these roadmaps entail for us and broaden our activities up to a high standard.

Wedecided to celebrate Members’ Day every first week of the month on Tuesday, where I will be available at your service and seeking your guidance and vision towards the chamber. I request cordial participation of our esteemed members on Tuesdays to continue this Members’ Day tradition a success. Together, we are now stronger, more prominent in shape. With the help of our highly dedicated and professional team at the BMCCI office, I am sure we will have another two successful years with challenges and achievements.

I wish you good health, prosperity and happiness in your personal lives and business endeavors in the year 2020.

Yours sincerely

Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky)
President
