“Empowered Wanita” – BMCCI inclines for guaranteeing a gender equivalent world

Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) has organized international women’s day celebration program, “Empowered Wanita- Celebration for Women in Lead” at its office premises on 10th March, 2020. The celebration included the presence of women leaders from different professions.

Madam Nordiana Bin Zawawi, spouse of H. E. Amir Farid Dato’ Abu Hasan graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. She said, international Women’s Day is a time to celebrate and reflect on progress made and also to recommit addressing persistent barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Welcoming the guests present the BMCCI president Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky) said, together we want to mobilize to end gender-based violence; we are calling for economic justice and rights for all; we want technology and innovation for gender equality; and feminist leadership. He mentioned that women should be equipped with higher education & training to get more formal jobs and becoming entrepreneurs. He also emphasized that the female RMG workers should be up skilled and reskilled for the overall development of the country.

H.E. the acting High Commissioner made a very lively speech on the theme of this year’s celebration. He briefly illustrated the progress of empowerment of women in Bangladesh, Malaysia and around the globe. He emphasized on the Gender Equality campaigns which are bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions and those will create the gender-equal world that we all deserve.

Among others Syed Nurul Islam, Past President, BMCCI, Farzana Chowdhury, Director, BMCCI, Lipi Khondokar, Director, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ayesha Iqbal Dada, Managing Director, Haji Ahmad Brothers Securities Ltd. and Nordiana Bin Zawawi spoke on the occasion.

Beside the participation of leading women entrepreneurs, BMCCI past presidents, directors, members, business leaders, media personalities, and journalists took part in the occasion. The program was followed by a melodious musical performance by K. M. Mijanur Rahman, Director of BMCCI.

Syed Moazzam Hossain, Managing Director of SMH Engineering Limited and Mr. Shabbir Ahmed Khan of Khan & Deen Traders have been elected as President and Hon. Secretary General respectively of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) for the term 2018-2019 in the 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday 23rd December, 2017. 

Mr. Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul, Chairman of Ayurvedia Pharmacy (Dacca) Ltd. and Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of MetroNet Bangladesh Limited as Vice Presidents. Mr. M. A. Bakar, Managing Director of Jaycee Shipping Agency Ltd. and Engr. Mohammad Badrul Hassan, Director of BBS Cables Ltd. have been elected as Hon. Joint Secretary General and Hon. Treasurer respectively for the same period.

BMCCI Iftar Mehfil

Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) hosted a grand Iftar Mehfil on Tuesday, 7th July 2015 6:00 PM at the Banquet Hall of Gardinia, Gulshan, Dhaka. It was arranged as a tradition of BMCCI to organize a gathering each year and celebrate the month of Holy Ramadan. H.E. Norlin Binti Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia and patron of BMCCI, was present in the program as the Chief Guest.

In conjunction with the Iftar Mehfil, BMCCI also launched it newly constructed Webpage: bmcci.org.bd by H.E. Norlin Binti Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia and patron of BMCCI. Syed Almas Kabir, Hony. Treasurer briefed about the webpage.

Former President of BMCCI Syed Moazzam Hossain said that BMCCI has been working to increase trade and investment between the two countries. He said the chamber will arrange Showcase Malaysia from 15 to 17 October, this year in Dhaka to increase trade between the two countries. “Two Malaysian business delegations are expected to participate in the Showcase”, he said.

The program was attended by representatives of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and other joint chambers. In addition, many elite business personalities of Bangladesh were invited to the event. Majority of the guests comprised of members and stakeholders of BMCCI.

The program was presided by Mr. Nasir A Choudhury, President of BMCCI, who welcomed the guests. The program started with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Iftar was followed by dinner after Maghrib prayers and the program concluded in due time for Tarabi prayers.
