BMCCI President Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky) submitted some important points in a memorandum to the FBCCI President for consideration. BMCCI President proposed on undertaking initiative to sign FTA with Malaysia by ensuring Bangladesh’s interest which has been a long pending issue.
FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin emphasized on Bangladesh doing more research and evaluation on product export diversification to cope up with the Malaysian Market.He proposed to further sit together with FBCCI, BMCCI and other concern stakeholders with all required data to discuss more and precisely on proposed FTA between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
During the discussion, FBCCI Vice President Md. Habib Ullah Dawn, and Director Syed Moazzem Hossain and Director Syed Almas Kabir took part enthusiastically. From the BMCCI Board, Hon. Secretary General Mahbubul Alam, Hon. Treasurer Syed Moinuddin Ahmed, Directors Jamilur Rahman, Rubaiyat Ahsan, Engr. Md. Mehedi Hasan, Sifat Ahmed Chaudhuri were present at the meeting.

BMCCI recently organized a webinar on “Bangladesh-Malaysia FTA: Challenges & Opportunities for Business Community” on 26th May 2021.In the webinar, Honorable Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi attended as the Chief Guest and High Commissioner of Bangladesh Md. Golam Sarwar, High Commissioner of Malaysia Haznah Md. Hashim were present as the Guest of Honours. The entire session was chaired and moderated by President of BMCCI, Mr. Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky).
The webinar had participation from various respected members of Media and business communities of both Bangladesh and Malaysia. Immediate Past President of BMCCI and Director of FBCCI Syed Moazzam Hossain, Chairperson of SVC Jhilmil Residential BD. Ltd Dr. Sabrina, CEO and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Malaysia Mr. Abrar Anwar participated in the discussion and shared their valuable thoughts on FTA. The closing remark of the webinar was given by Vice President of BMCCI, Anwar Shahid.

Virtual B2B Meeting Week between ICT Companies of Bangladesh and Malaysia begins

A virtual B2B Meeting between ICT Companies of both Bangladesh and Malaysia has been organized under the Tri-party MoU among Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry(BMCCI), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS),  has began on  19th April 2021. With hope of increasing the existing and creating new investment opportunities in the ICT sector, the virtual matchmaking meetings will continue till 29 April 2021. In this first phase of virtual B2B Meetings, 18 Malaysian ICT Companies and 35 Bangladeshi companies are going to have individual business matchmaking meeting over virtual video conferencing platform Zoom.

The Three organizing institutions are going to continue arrange such meetings in future. The organizers have requested the companies who are interested to join in upcoming phases of ICT business meet up to communicate with BMCCI and BASIS at their convenient time.

Bangladesh PM announces Tk 72,750cr COVID-19 stimulus package

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday announced a special incentive package of Tk 72,750 crore to face the economic losses of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Bangladesh.

Addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganabhaban, the prime minister announced the incentive package for industries, small and medium-sized enterprises, export development fund and pre-shipment credit.

She also said that banks would provide Tk 20,000 crore loans to small and medium enterprises on nine per cent interest. Of the interest, the industries will pay 4 per cent and the government will pay the rest 5 per cent.

‘The four programmes are: increasing public expenditure, formulating a stimulus package, widening social safety net coverage and increasing monetary supply,’ she said.

The amount is nearly 2.52 per cent of GDP.

She announced the rest amount for export development fund and pre-shipment credit.

Two more people died of COVID-19 and nine more tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh on Saturday.

With the latest figures, the government has so far reported eight deaths and 70 infections.

“Empowered Wanita” – BMCCI inclines for guaranteeing a gender equivalent world

Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) has organized international women’s day celebration program, “Empowered Wanita- Celebration for Women in Lead” at its office premises on 10th March, 2020. The celebration included the presence of women leaders from different professions.

Madam Nordiana Bin Zawawi, spouse of H. E. Amir Farid Dato’ Abu Hasan graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. She said, international Women’s Day is a time to celebrate and reflect on progress made and also to recommit addressing persistent barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Welcoming the guests present the BMCCI president Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky) said, together we want to mobilize to end gender-based violence; we are calling for economic justice and rights for all; we want technology and innovation for gender equality; and feminist leadership. He mentioned that women should be equipped with higher education & training to get more formal jobs and becoming entrepreneurs. He also emphasized that the female RMG workers should be up skilled and reskilled for the overall development of the country.

H.E. the acting High Commissioner made a very lively speech on the theme of this year’s celebration. He briefly illustrated the progress of empowerment of women in Bangladesh, Malaysia and around the globe. He emphasized on the Gender Equality campaigns which are bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions and those will create the gender-equal world that we all deserve.

Among others Syed Nurul Islam, Past President, BMCCI, Farzana Chowdhury, Director, BMCCI, Lipi Khondokar, Director, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ayesha Iqbal Dada, Managing Director, Haji Ahmad Brothers Securities Ltd. and Nordiana Bin Zawawi spoke on the occasion.

Beside the participation of leading women entrepreneurs, BMCCI past presidents, directors, members, business leaders, media personalities, and journalists took part in the occasion. The program was followed by a melodious musical performance by K. M. Mijanur Rahman, Director of BMCCI.
